Welcome to Hesston College! Located just 35 minutes north of Wichita, Kansas, Hesston is a private, two-year Christian college with about 450 students. Students come from more than 30 states and 17 countries to pursue one of 50 programs of study that will transfer to a four-year college or university or one of nine career programs. Covering about 50 acres, our beautiful campus quickly becomes a home away from home for students who start here. The best way to get a sense of what life is really like here is to schedule a personalized overnight campus visit.

Alliman Administration Center

The Alliman Administration Center is home to a number of important offices on campus. On the first floor you'll find the campus post office, the IT department and the Copy Center. The second floor houses the Admissions, Financial Aid, Business and Academic Dean's offices. Development, Alumni and Church Relations, Marketing and Communications and the President's offices are on the third floor. Students come to Alliman to cash checks in the Business office, get a copy of their transcripts from the Registrar, or to get computer help from IT .

Northlawn

Northlawn is the home of performing arts at Hesston College. One of the many benefits of Hesston being a two-year college is that freshmen and sophomores perform in select music ensembles, land lead roles in theatre productions and step into a number of other leadership roles such as planning and leading campus worship. Northlawn, built in 1971, is scheduled to undergo a complete renovation beginning in December 2014. Upon completion, the building will feature classrooms, a black box theatre, practice rooms for vocal and instrumental students, rehearsal spaces for our two choirs and chamber orchestra as well as dedicated space for student-led Campus Worship.

Friesen Center for the Visual Arts

The Friesen Center for Visual Arts, built in 2008, is named after Paul Friesen, a local artist, graduate and former faculty member. On the average day, you can hear Paul working in his sculpture studio or see him on his wheel in the ceramics studio. The facility was designed with an emphasis on natural light, collaborative learning and artistic elements. The Regier Friesen Gallery features art of students, alumni and regional artists throughout the year. All art majors have the opportunity to have a sophomore gallery show, another perk of attending a two-year school. Other building highlights include: the Mac lab, ceramics studio, drawing and painting studio and flexible classroom space.

Charles Hall

Charles Hall houses the college's science and math classrooms, labs and faculty offices. It also holds one of the largest private collections of birds in Kansas. Connected to Charles Hall is the Lemons Center, built in 1996 to house Hesston's top-notch nursing program. In our simulation lab, students get experience by caring for 96 different "simulated" patients, each with a different medical condition. Hesston's nursing faculty emphasize a holistic approach to patient care that makes our graduates highly employable. In the nursing program's 47-year history, nearly 100 percent of nursing graduates who have sought nursing positions have landed a job.

Smith Center

Smith Center, built in 2003, is home to Academic Center for Career Exploration & Student Success, or as well call it, "ACCESS." The ACCESS lab in Smith Center is a great place for all students to receive assistance on academic work through writing assistants, free one-on-one tutoring and student- and faculty-led study groups and much more. In addition to classrooms and faculty offices, Smith Center is also home to the Mary Miller Library, which houses more than 30,000 volumes as well as provides students with access to online journals, laptops, study rooms and a collection of movies that students may borrow.

Hesston Mennonite Church

Hesston Mennonite Church, HMC for short, is where Chapel is held every Monday and Wednesday and where Forum is held every Friday. Chapel and Forum is a great time to take advantage of the community offered at Hesston College since it's a time when the whole campus comes together for a shared experience. Because we value this time spent together, on-campus students are required to attend 24 chapels per semester, with off-campus students required to attend eight. Chapels and Forums touch on many topics, offer different styles of worship and can feature student, faculty, staff or guest speakers. HMC is also home to performing arts and other campus-wide events throughout the year. And it's a great place to go if you're looking for a place to worship on Sunday mornings.

Kropf Center

Kropf Center, built in 1991, is home to four classrooms, two computer labs and two conference rooms. It also houses faculty offices and the college's Bible and Ministry Center. Even though Hesston College is a Mennonite school, the campus is home to students from more than 25 faith traditions. All students who plan to graduate from Hesston College take at least one Bible course called Biblical Literature. Bib Lit, as it's called by students, helps all students better understand their own and others' faith traditions.

Bontrager Student Center

Students visit Bontrager Student Center daily to get their mail and eat in the Dining Hall. The Dining Hall is unique in that it is not operated by a catering company – our food is homemade. Because community is a central value at Hesston College, we set up our dining hours and menu like families do, which means Dining Hall hours are shorter than most colleges. This is an intentional decision that allows everyone an opportunity to eat together. The Dining Hall also features a flag for each country represented by a current student. In 2013-14, our students represented 17 countries.

Erb Hall

Erb Hall, one of two residence halls, is connected to Bontrager Student Center. The dormitory features 14 female mods and eight male mods of 10 to 14 students each. Organizing residence halls by smaller subsets called "mods" offers students their own little family within the student body. Each mod has a Resident Assistant or RA who plans activities, is available to talk or give advice and who looks out for the people in their mod. Erb Hall also has laundry facilities and houses Student Life, campus counselors, campus activities, our campus pastor, the Larks nest snack shop and the Hesston College Bookstore. The central and west wings of Erb Hall were renovated in 2012.

Yost Center

Yost Center houses basketball and volleyball games and large events like Commencement. In Yost Center, you'll find Athletic offices, racquetball courts, locker rooms, a training room and a walking/jogging track. Hesston offers 11 varsity sports: women's basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, softball and cross country; and men's basketball, tennis, soccer, baseball and cross country. The Yost Center training room is a place where Athletic Training students are often found getting hands-on experience wrapping athletes' ankles and shadowing and learning from our athletic trainers and athletic training faculty. Campus Activities Center

The Campus Activities Center, or CAC, is a second gymnasium used for indoor soccer, intramurals and special events. Intramurals at Hesston are unique in that they are "staff led." This means that teams are developed for students instead of having students find their own team. This ensures that all students are welcomed onto a team and have a place to belong. Even if you're not an all-star athlete, intramurals such as sand volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, basketball and many others are a great way to get involved and meet people. The CAC also houses a weight room for athletic team weight training.

The Laban Peachey Center houses the campus facilities department and the Early Childhood Education facility. Our Early Childhood Education, or ECE, program offers hands-on learning for students by offering observation classes in our preschool laboratory. The Hesston College preschool is a morning preschool program for community children ages 3 to 5. Sophomore students also have an opportunity to plan and teach a unit at the preschool. Students who have graduated from the ECE and education programs often report back that they feel leaps ahead of others in their field thanks to the instruction and learning opportunities they received in the college's preschool lab.

Kauffman Court is a men's dormitory and houses more than half the male students on campus. Renovated in 2001, KC, as it is called by students, is made up of three buildings arranged in a U-shape. KC houses 18 male mods of eight to 12 students each. In addition to having a resident assistant (or RA), each mod also has mod parents. Mod parents are families in the community who adopt a mod for the school year. Mod parents do a variety of things ranging from hosting a Super Bowl party, to bringing treats to the mod on birthdays, to offering a place off campus to hang out.

The Hesston College Aviation program is housed at the Newton City-County Airport, east of Newton, Kan. Hesston College Aviation students pursue studies in either flight or air traffic control and are able to get in the cockpit their first semester. Hesston College is one of only 36 schools in the United States approved by the FAA to teach Air Traffic Control and one of only two with FAA approval to teach flight courses in Kansas. The college's Aviation program is challenging, yet faculty members are dedicated to journeying alongside students as they pursue the possibility of becoming a pilot or air traffic controller.

Dyck Arboretum of the Plains is one of the largest native prairie gardens in the region. Built in 1981, the arboretum is owned by Hesston College and serves as a relaxing space for students and the local community to enjoy. Just a few blocks south of campus, the arboretum covers 13 acres and offers nature walks, a paved half-mile walking/running trail and more than 1,000 native plants, trees and grasses. The arboretum also hosts community events and a regionally known series of Americana style concerts called the Prairie Window Concert Series.

The college's primary campus cardiovascular and weight-training facility for students is housed at the Hesston Wellness Center which is about three blocks south of campus. The center includes a well-equipped exercise facility, a walking path and an indoor swimming pool/hot tub. The Wellness Center also offers fitness classes. Full-time students at Hesston receive a complimentary membership to the Wellness Center and have free access to the facilities and fitness classes.
