Welcome to Texas Southern University - College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, "One College, One Goal, One Mission" where we produce an ethnically diverse population of quality health care professionals, especially African-Americans and other ethnic minorities, who are competent in the delivery of interdisciplinary health services while addressing critical urban issues. The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has 6 Health Disciplines and 9 Degrees including: Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Environmental Health, Health Administration, Health Information Management, Pharmacy and Respiratory Therapy. The College has 6 traditional classrooms, 5 Practice Labs and 22 research labs located in Gray Hall and the Nabrit Health Professions Practice and Simulation Complex. We provide an innovative, productive and receptive learning environment for research, classroom instruction and simulated training. Infusing new technology into academic programs. Our academic programs are evaluated and assessed to ensure that the students are equipped for careers as researchers in pharmaceutical science and practitioners in one of the six health professions offered.

Texas Southern University, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Health Professions Practice and Simulation Complex is a unique facility that facilitates training of clinical laboratory science, environmental health, health administration, health information management, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy students. State-of-the-art equipment is utilized to prepare students to be immediately hirable upon graduation. The third floor houses practice labs unique to each program for hands-on teaching and learning, and the second floor houses a one-of-a-kind Interdisciplinary Simulation Center designed to resemble a health system with various departments and doctors' offices to allow students from all programs to learn together and be tested on skills learned.

The ambulatory care area is an expansive space featuring 10 fully equipped clinic examination rooms similar to those seen in doctors' offices. Students are able to practice administration of routine physical exams. Additionally, assessments of students' ability to provide clinical services to patients are reviewed and recorded to allow for feedback. The clinical laboratory area is designed to resemble a clinical lab to allow clinical laboratory science students to be assessed on their technique in processing lab specimens. It also has two individual phlebotomy rooms for students to be assessed on their technique in administering blood draws.

The acute care area resembles a hospital unit and features a nursing station, medication room, supply room, and 5 patient rooms. Each patient room is equipped with medical gases, a life-like mannequin that provides responses based on student clinical recommendations, and a monitor to view changes in vital signs. Students from all programs learn a variety of procedural skills using the mannequins and gain hands-on experience. TSU students are also able to train and be assessed with the various healthcare profession programs to work together to make clinical decisions. Activities are recorded during assessments for students and faculty to review.

The outpatient pharmacy is designed to help enhance student knowledge and responsiveness by offering a realistic environment for pharmacy students to practice dispensing and communication skills. It resembles a traditional drugstore pharmacy with stations for students to enter prescriptions and counsel and check-out patients. Additionally, there is shelving for prescription medications, as well as over-the-counter medications. During testing in this space, activities are recorded for students and faculty to review.

Clinical Laboratory Science students at Texas Southern University are taught in a space that is similar to that of a clinical lab. Each student has access to a computer, microscope, and drawers for storage of equipment and supplies needed for classroom exercises. Large and multi-user equipment is located around the perimeter of the room, including refrigerators for storage of various specimen collected during exercises. Additionally, there are two phlebotomy chairs in the room to give students an opportunity to practice administering blood draws.

Pharmacy students at Texas Southern University have the opportunity to be trained in a learning space unlike any other pharmacy program. Students are taught in an environment that prepares them to work in multiple settings, including hospital and drugstore pharmacies. The Pharmacy Practice Lab has 40 individual student stations, and each is equipped with a computer and space to allow students to practice preparing prescriptions and counseling patients. Additionally, TSU students have access to a cleanroom with 20 hoods, allowing them to become certified in preparing intravenous medications, such as those given to patients in the hospital.
