Hello, and welcome to UC Berkeley Housing! Living on campus offers countless opportunities to connect, make friends, and access academic resources. You'll be near campus with the benefits of an easy, safe, and convenient support system. Which is why 96% of first-year and around a quarter of incoming transfer students live on campus. First-year students live in one of seven residence halls, while transfer and continuing students have options to live in either residence halls or in one of eight undergraduate apartments. UC Berkeley also offers dedicated graduate student housing and family student housing. Our tour opens on the Panoramic Berkeley apartments rooftop, located south of campus on historic Telegraph Avenue.

Unit 1, Unit 2, & Unit 3 Residence Halls

Here in the courtyard of Unit 2, you're right in the urban heart of Berkeley amid local cafes, shops, bookstores, and international eateries. Units 1, 2, and 3 provide a traditional residential hall experience in high-rise complexes one to three blocks south of the university. Most rooms are shared by three roommates, and all residents share community hallways, bathrooms, and study spaces.

Residence halls include a meal plan, utilities, wifi, and a wealth of on-site resources, including: faculty in residence, student Resident Assistants, furnished rooms, facilities and custodial staff, academic study centers, tutoring, fitness centers, recreation rooms, laundry centers, mail services, kitchens, bike storage, and three tiers of secured entry.

Foothill Residence Hall

Set atop the northeast side of campus amid tall redwood trees, Foothill residence hall is a collection of wood-shingled buildings overlooking shaded courtyards and the San Francisco Bay. Here you're close to nature and hiking trails, and a short walk from Memorial Stadium, STEM classrooms, and academic centers on the northside of campus, like the science and engineering buildings.

Foothill is arranged with all suite-style rooms, where students share a common area and have separate locked entrances. Two to four students share a bedroom in a suite of three to eleven bedrooms. Foothill dining commons is located on-site, and boasts high ceilings, lots of windows, and wood paneling.

Stern Residence Hall

Tucked into the northeast side of campus alongside Foothill, Stern residence hall is dedicated to womxn-identified students. This quiet neighborhood with colorful courtyards is close to nature trails, Memorial Stadium, STEM classrooms, and the engineering and science buildings. Stern shares the Foothill dining commons with the community next door.

Rooms are arranged in both traditional residence halls and suite-style housing.

Stern residence hall is home to the optional Empowering Womxn in STEAM (or "WiSE") theme program, which welcomes students who experience life through the lens of womxn, and is designed to foster a community inclusive of transgender, gender-fluid, and nonbinary students.

Clark Kerr Residence Hall

A picturesque, mini-neighborhood with Spanish mission-style architecture, Clark Kerr is decorated with tree-lined courtyards, is home to a community garden, and offers easy access to nature and hiking trails. Located approximately six blocks southeast of the main campus, the residence hall neighbors the Golden Bear Recreation Center, which includes a swimming pool, tennis courts, and outdoor track.

Both the residence hall rooms and suite rooms in Clark Kerr can be shared among two to four students. The hall is home to the optional Global Environment theme program. The Clark Kerr dining commons is located on-site in a historic building with outdoor patios.

Blackwell Residence Hall

Boasting a lively social atmosphere just south of campus, Blackwell Hall is conveniently situated near many local restaurants and shops. Only a block away is the Recreational Sports Facility (the university's largest fitness center with over 100,000 square feet of activity space) and Sproul Plaza (home to Sather Gate, The Golden Bear Café, and an abundance of student activities).

Blackwell's large, secure housing complex encircles an interior courtyard featuring premium-style double rooms in traditional residence hall layouts, with shared hallways and bathrooms. Premium amenities include several lounges and study rooms on each floor and newer finishes. The nearest dining commons, Café 3, is only a block away.

Martinez Commons Residence Hall & Apartments

Conveniently located two blocks south of campus is Martinez Commons, a modern, environmentally sustainable building that includes both residence hall rooms and independent living apartments. Living here places students in the urban heart of Berkeley, close to local cafes, restaurants, and shops. This location prioritizes sophomores and is an option for continuing and transfer students.

Martinez Commons is the only residence hall open over Winter Break. Residence hall rooms are shared by two or three students, with residents sharing community bathrooms and lounges. Apartments are single gender featuring single-occupancy bedrooms with semi-private living spaces.

Crossroads Dining Commons

Located a few steps across the street from Unit 1 and Unit 2 is Crossroads, one of four dining commons on campus, along with three eateries. Each residence hall has a dining commons nearby—you are invited to eat at all of them, but the closest one will feel like home! Every residence hall agreement comes with a basic meal plan, which you can upgrade for more meals and flex dollars if desired. Our chefs and dietitians take pride in sourcing fresh, organic ingredients from local farms and creating innovative menus highlighting California's diverse cultures and flavors. All our dining commons offer vegan, kosher, halal, gluten-free, and allergen-safe choices.

Undergraduate Apartments

For transfer students and continuing undergraduate students, UC Berkeley offers eight apartment buildings in convenient locations near campus. Shown here is Channing-Bowditch, just two blocks from campus and steps from bustling Telegraph Avenue. In campus apartments, you'll enjoy independent living with the convenience, security, and academic advantages of university housing.

Undergraduate apartments are fully furnished and most feature one to five bedrooms with shared kitchen, bathroom, and living and dining area. Meal plans are not included but may be purchased separately. Our newest building is Helen Diller Anchor House, which welcomes transfer students to apartments with single bedrooms, with access to an indoor-outdoor gym and multiple community spaces and resources.

Graduate Apartments

Graduate students can enjoy independent living in one of four campus apartment buildings dedicated to the graduate student community. Shown here is Ida L. Jackson Graduate House, located one block from campus on tree-lined College Avenue. The other three options are Intersection Apartments, Manville Apartments, and Albany Village Graduate Student Apartments.

Residents in graduate apartments room privately in either studios or single-occupancy bedrooms. Each apartment has multi-bedrooms that share a kitchen, bathroom, and living and dining area. Graduate apartment complexes offer multiple shared common areas and amenities like study and recreation rooms, lounges, mail room, bicycle storage, and laundry facilities.

Family Housing: University Village

On a 58-acre complex west of campus is University Village: family student housing for undergraduate and graduate students who have dependents, are married, or are in a domestic partnership. Be part of an organized, family community 3.5 miles from campus, conveniently close to local shops, department stores, green spaces, Albany beach, and the highway. Available with one to three bedrooms and one or two bathrooms, apartments are unfurnished and utilities are included. Single parents receive priority.

Composed of West Village and East Village in Albany, California, the community hosts its own recreational and community center, café, laundry rooms, and child care center, all within 20 minutes of campus.
