Hello! Welcome to Grand Rapids Community College. My name is Kelly and I will be your tour guide today. Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall (RJF Hall) houses a variety of student services and programs, including the Enrollment Center, Financial Aid, Student Records/Registrar, and Cashiers. RJF Hall is also devoted to classroom space and academic departments such as Visual Arts, Language and Thought, the Meijer Center for Business Studies, and Child Development and Education. And, between classes you will find dining options at Subway or Patatas Restaurant in Winchester Alley. Just outside is the Juan R. Olivarez Student Plaza, where you will find people studying, soaking up the sun, or hanging out at an event hosted by the Campus Activities Board.

Connected to the RJF Hall, the Peter and Pat Cook Academic Hall is five floors of classroom learning and study spaces. Most of our classes for Mathematics and Allied Health programs – such as nursing, dental, radiological technology and occupational therapy – are in Cook Hall. From my experience, the first floor has some great places to study – especially if you have a math class, because that's also where you will find the mathematics tutorial and computer labs.

The GRCC Police Department is located in the center of campus, on the first floor of the Lyon Street Parking Ramp. The Campus Police provide medical and emergency first response services, as well as motorist assistance, and lost and found. If you're having car trouble or need an escort to your car, they are the ones to call.

This is the Calkins Science Center. Opened in 2000, it has become the innovative center of our campus, and the place to study biology, chemistry, anatomy and other natural sciences. It is home to numerous classrooms and laboratories, including a computer lab, biology, physics and calculus tutoring centers, and a cadaver lab. Calkins also is home to a lovely greenhouse and prehistoric garden. Our professors are very proud of this state-of-the-art facility that offers students hands-on experiences with equipment and technology.

We are at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse named after our nation's 38th president, who also was a Grand Rapids native. The fieldhouse is the epicenter of wellness, athletics and recreation on campus. It features an Olympic-size swimming pool, a large gym with multiple basketball courts, a fitness and weightlifting center, and much more. The fieldhouse is open to all students. Exercise science classes are housed in this facility, and it also is home to our eight intercollegiate athletic teams. All students receive free admission to all sporting events. Go Raiders! Just up the hill the Laboratory Preschool is a learning environment for college students enrolled in the Child Development curriculum. Students engage in activities with the children under the supervision of highly qualified teachers in a model early childhood program. GRCC's Laboratory Preschool is a unique environment. Each child's interests and personal gifts are engaged with a weekly schedule full of language arts, music and movement, creative arts activities, as well as challenging science and math games. The preschool classrooms use the project approach with the children in order to investigate topics of interest more in-depth. Students in our Education programs will gain experience working with infants, toddlers and preschoolers. As appropriate for the age group, they will plan, organize and implement activities in the following areas: art, language arts, music, science, math, cooking, games, physical activities and dramatic play.

The Student Center offers many benefits to students at GRCC. You can meet with an academic adviser or grab a bite to eat at the Raider Grille or Quiet Cafe. You can also visit the GRCC Bookstore to buy your books and class supplies, or attend student organization meetings in any of the available spaces. Student services such as the Academic Advising and Transfer Center and Counseling and Career Center are found on the third floor. Be sure to check out the Student Life and Conduct Office to explore student activities outside of the classroom. In other words, the Student Center, appropriately, is all about us – the students.

GRCC offers Associate degrees in music with emphasis in music education, performance, music therapy and recording technology, and if that's music to your ears, then the Music Center is the place for you. Learning spaces include classrooms, 16 practice rooms, choral and instrumental rehearsal rooms, an auditorium, a piano lab, a music technology iMac lab, video recording capability of all private music lessons, online delivery of most music courses, and a recording studio. Whew, that's a lot of ways to make music. Even if you don't plan to major in music, there are tons of opportunities for you to hone your skills and pursue music as a personal passion. We are the only community college in Michigan that is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music and the Music Building is newly renovated which makes it a must-go to study and attend performances.

We're now standing in front of the Library and Learning Commons – home to academic support services, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and the campus library. Our library features thousands of online research resources and a large reference and periodical collection. You also will find quiet places to read, study or use a computer. Visit the Academic Support Center on the second floor and sign up for free tutoring services whenever you need assistance. The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion partners with campus offices to provide student engagement services, culturally unique programs, and training opportunities.

This is the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center, or as we call it, the ATC. This is where you will find a variety of technology-related programs such as Manufacturing, Computer Applications, and Architectural Design. The ATC also is home to our renowned Secchia Institute for Culinary Education, rated one of the top 20 culinary programs nationwide by FSR Magazine. They feature amazing student-run restaurants. Interested in fine dining? Visit us at The Heritage, or, come to Art & Bevs, a fantastic deli. GRCC is also home to one of the few College run breweries in America, Fountain Hill Brewery, which is run by students enrolled in the Craft Brewing program. Ferris State University also has an extension campus here with convenient and affordable ways to get a bachelor's degree right on our campus.

Here we are at the heart of our performing arts program, the Spectrum Theater. More than just a theater, the Spectrum is a classroom for dance, acting and improv, set design, theater technology, and directing. It also is home to several performance groups including Actors' Theater, Heritage Theater, Jewish Theater and our student group, the GRCC Players. Welcome to the DeVos campus! This is Stewart Edward White Hall, or just White Hall. It is a historic, 100-year-old home that was renovated in 2011 and awarded a Silver LEED Certification for its environmentally friendly design. White Hall is connected to Sneden Hall and is where you will find the faculty offices for our Psychology, Social Sciences and Criminal Justice programs. It also has some great quiet spaces for students to study.

At the center of the DeVos campus is Sneden Hall – a full classroom building with computer labs, study areas and a breakfast and lunch café. Sneden is where you will spend a lot of time if you are in our Psychology, Social Sciences or Criminal Justice programs. During the fall and winter semesters, Sneden Hall is connected to the downtown campus by a shuttle bus that runs from morning to early evening, allowing you to get back and forth quickly and never miss a class.

Just more than one mile from our main campus, we have arrived at our M-Tec building. Offering job training and vocational programs, the Leslie E. Tassell M-TEC affords students hands-on training programs essential to professions like automotive technologies, computer programming, welding, construction trades and other emerging and in demand jobs. The M-TEC opened in 2002 and is a 90,000-square-foot workforce training space that is an important and vibrant addition to the GRCC campus and the community.

Located in Ottawa County and serving the lakeshore communities is a group of five GRCC facilities that we call the Lakeshore campus. We have fully staffed offices at the Patrick A. Thompson M-TEC and the Midtown Center, offering an array of student services. You can take classes in Holland for a certificate or even earn an associate degree.
