Dickinson State University is located in the city after which it is named. Dickinson, the seventh largest city in the state, is the hub of West River North Dakota and boasts a population of approximately 17,000. Located on the top floor of May Hall, the CPA Experience is a self-directed program focused on preparing students for the CPA exam. Accounting majors come to the center to work in a community setting that is designed to encourage students to work together. Using Moodle, students are able to listen to lectures online, access textbooks and view notes from their laptop or iPad, all at their own pace. A testing room is designed to prepare students for the actual CPA exam. Professors are available during non-traditional classroom hours to support students.

The TR program office is located on the third floor of May Hall. This honors scholarship program accepts students which have met the necessary criteria. Students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.25 each semester and must be seeking a bachelor's degree. TR scholars complete a rigorous course of study in pursuit of a leadership studies minor that involves intensive reading and writing. The educational experience for TR scholars is maximized by a number of opportunities to learn outside the classroom. TR students attend meetings, events, and participate in a variety of co-curricular activities.

An original structure within May Hall, the auditorium on the main level of May Hall went without name until October 20, 1976. On that day, the auditorium was named and dedicated in honor of Dorothy Stickney, Broadway actress, vaudeville performer and daughter of Dr. Victor Hugo Stickney. Dorothy Stickney Auditorium is the largest auditorium on campus, seating 731 and is used for university theatrical productions, concerts and winter commencement. Behind the main stage of the auditorium are spacious dressing rooms, costume and prop rooms and also a smaller backstage theater and dance loft are available for students to use.

Neighboring May Hall is Stoxen Library. Today, Stoxen Library contains over 90,000 volumes, more than 600 current print periodical subscriptions, more than 6,000 online periodicals and two state-of-the-art computer labs. Students can take advantage of the Academic Success Center and TRiO Student Support Services in the basement of the library, as well as schedule tutoring sessions in a number of different subjects. The Theodore Roosevelt Center, also located in the basement of the library, works every day to digitize the documents of our beloved 26th president of the United States. Stoxen Library is named in honor of Matilda Stoxen, a member of the first ever graduating class of DSU and longtime DSU librarian.

The Tutoring Center offers academic support to all enrolled students. Its mission is to promote intellectual growth and self-confidence, regardless of initial skill or ability level, via an active, welcoming, peer-centered tutoring environment. The Tutoring Center seeks to help students become independent, self-directed learners. The center is located in the lower level of Stoxen Library. Certified by the College Reading and Learning Association, trained tutors offer excellent student support in specific academic areas (mathematics, psychology, chemistry, essays and other types of writing within specific disciplines) as well as in skill areas (general writing, note-taking, test-taking strategies, time management, stress management).

Selke Hall, an all-men's dormitory, consists of three floors with 51 rooms total. Every floor has large bathroom and shower facilities to easily accommodate its residents. Laundry facilities are also provided. Located across the street from the DSU campus, the Dickinson State University Alumni and Foundation house awards over $1 million in scholarships annually to deserving DSU students. Built in 2004, the Alumni & Foundation house is dedicated to keeping in close contact with our alumni and generous donors. Stickney Hall was the second building built on campus in 1921. The building was named after Dr. Victor Hugo Stickney, a pioneer doctor who had settled in Dickinson in 1884. Dr. Stickney was also a people's favorite in the town of Dickinson and a close friend of DSU's first president, Dr. Samuel T. May. Originally a women's dormitory, Stickney Hall currently houses the offices of many Dickinson State faculty and staff members. In 2010, the inside of Stickney Hall was renovated. Stickney Hall tends to be a campus favorite because of its unique architecture and rich history.

Originally constructed as a women's dormitory in 1932, Klinefelter Hall was renovated in 1995 to house the Department of Teacher Education, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Department of Nursing. Each month, the DSU Art Gallery, located on the main floor, hosts galleries ranging from watercolor art to live floral arrangements. Beck Auditorium, also located on the main floor, is often used as a classroom or theater. In addition to housing three departments on campus, classrooms and computer labs also are located throughout the building. This four story building was named in honor of Maude Klinefelter, who served in various roles at DSU from the university's beginning in 1918.

The nursing labs are located on the fourth floor of Klinefelter Hall in the department of nursing. In the Nursing learning lab, simulated patient care stations are made available to practice basic to advanced skills using low-tech task trainers. Injection pads, adult and child mannequins, and IV arms are all used to teach important skills. In the Simulation Lab, faculty and students use more sophisticated, computerized patient simulators. These high-tech simulators are able to interact, breathe, and open and close their eyes. These hands-on tools are allow nursing students to learn through adult and pediatric patient scenarios.

Wienbergen Hall consists of two levels fully committed to DSU athletics and is also houses of Scott Gym. The main level has the largest gym on campus, which includes an indoor track and practice field. Most physical education classes also are held on the main level. Attached to the main level is Scott Gym, which is home of the Blue Hawk wrestling, volleyball and basketball games. The lower level features a weightlifting room, locker rooms, two class rooms, faculty offices and the Ben C. Frank Human Performance Center. The Center utilizes the Frappier Acceleration Program, a state-of-the-art fitness program that has been used to train Olympic athletes.

Opening its doors in 2000, the Ben C. Frank Performance Center was made possible by the generosity of alumnus Ben C. Frank. The center opened with the intentions of providing a state-of-the-art training center and exercise lab for DSU student athletes and exercise science students. The center is a 5,000 square foot facility that includes over 25,000 pounds of free weights, multiple Olympic platforms and free weight racks and stations. Along with the free weights, DSU has incorporated the equipment necessary to implement the Athletic Republic Acceleration Sports Training Programs. The Ben C. Frank Human Performance Center is located in the basement of Wienbergen Hall.

The BAC boasts the largest outdoor video board in the state, the Hawk Vision Video Board, and also includes the Roger Huffman Track and Fisher Field, the only artificially turfed field in western North Dakota. With room for more than 3,500 spectators and fans, the BAC comfortably accommodates Blue Hawk fans with suites, club seating and general admission. Neighboring the DSU Ag Building is the outdoor rodeo arena. Due to DSU being actively involved with the city of Dickinson, the Dickinson Roughrider Commission and DSU share joint ownership of the facility and host many rodeos featuring DSU student rodeo athletes during the spring and summer months.

DSU's South Campus Art Buildings are located just blocks away from DSU Main Campus. Because of DSU's expanding art curriculum, the South Campus Art Buildings became a part of DSU in 1982. Currently, the back building consists of a ceramics studio, drawing loft, printmaking area and a large space that is used for oil painting, watercolor and 3D design. Attached to the back building is a black and white traditional darkroom and photo lighting studio. The front building includes a smart classroom, offices and a matting studio for photos and portraits.
