The Michael Stevenson Grand Hall is the vibrant heart of student life at SFU's Surrey Campus. It's a central gathering place for students, faculty, staff and visitors, offering spaces for studying and socializing. Key services, like the Registrar & Information desk, help guide students and connect them to campus resources. A popular event in the Hall is the Games Lounge, which transforms the Mezzanine into a lively space filled with fun activities. The Hall also hosts seasonal events, festivals and student showcases, creating a sense of community. Nearby, students can access SFU Health & Counselling and request safe walks from the SFU security desk, enhancing campus safety and support.

The unique FASS One program in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences helps first-year students transition into university life. Our Surrey campus is an excellent place to begin your SFU Science degree. Known for its hands-on lab courses and innovative study spaces, the campus also offers the Science at Surrey program. This program provides lectures, labs and tutorials for your first year and potentially beyond. You'll have a dedicated academic advisor to assist with your transition to university and support your academic goals. Another advantage of learning science in Surrey is the smaller class sizes, which encourage stronger connection with classmates and professors, and extensive practical experience with professional equipment in our science labs. Science at Surrey delivers a supportive environment to set you up for success.
Our unique School of Interactive Arts & Technology, *SIAT*, focuses on the creative development of digital technologies and their users. SIAT features several dedicated student studio spaces that make use of the latest technology available to working creative professionals. In addition to these studios, the SIAT Solid Space Fabrication and Prototyping Lab allows students to bring digital designs to life with tools like 3D printers, laser cutters and more. In SIAT, you'll explore areas like game design and interactive film, gaining skills to design user experiences for diverse communities. This interdisciplinary program blends art, design, social science and computer science, fostering critical thinking and creative skills highly valued by employers.
The atrium at SFU's Surrey Engineering Building is a beautifully designed space with bright natural lighting, multiple levels and breakout seating in treepods. It is part of a LEED Gold certified sustainable building that includes teaching and research labs, study and lounge areas, offices and a 400-seat lecture hall. The building houses SFU's Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Sustainable Energy Engineering, a new interdisciplinary program that is the first-of-its-kind in western Canada. The next major development for SFU Surrey is the School of Medicine, aimed at training physicians to meet healthcare needs through community-embedded, socially accountable, and culturally safe healthcare.
SFU's Surrey Engineering Building features a groundbreaking Smart Manufacturing Hub, the first of its kind in Western Canada. The Hub simulates an automated smart factory with artificial vision, collaborative robots and smart devices, providing a unique Industry 4.0 training system. This advanced facility is part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, which offers three programs in Surrey: Mechatronics, Software Systems and Sustainable Energy Engineering. The Indigenous Student Centre at the Surrey campus is a welcoming and inclusive space for Indigenous students, offering emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual support. The centre provides a study area, lounge, and kitchenette, along with academic support services such as tutoring, advising, and writing assistance. Indigenous Counsellors are available to support with individual counselling, resource referrals, and group offerings. The Centre hosts unique and cultural events, workshops, programs and services throughout the term to uphold a vibrant community. The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board Library at SFU's Surrey campus offers a wide range of services. An exciting feature is the Games Collection and Room, where you can borrow board games, console games and select gaming consoles. The library holds over 28,500 books, 130 journals and thousands of videos and video games. Dedicated staff are available to provide research help, workshops, online guides and tutorials. Specialist librarians for each program and media technicians are available for technology and equipment questions. The Student Learning Commons offers academic support to bolster academic success, including writing skills, exam preparation, research techniques and developing effective study habits to help students succeed.
