Butler Welcome Center

This is Butler Hall, also known as our Welcome Center. Home to our admissions and financial aid teams, this will be your first stop during your in-person visit to campus. Here you will meet with your admissions counselor and financial aid advisor. Butler Hall is also home to our IT Department, Marketing and Communications Department, Intercollegiate Recreational Sports teams, and our national championship-winning Track and Cross Country programs.

Sarah Swann Hall

Built in 1904, historic Sarah Swann Hall houses sophomore, junior and senior females. Comprised of Georgian architecture with Corinthian columns, inviting porches, a fireplace, formal parlors, a wooden staircase and dining room, Swann Hall features a truly unique, traditional community-style housing experience. Each floor has a study lounge with couches and modern ammenties. Swann Hall is recognized by the Tennessee Historical Commission.

Tarr Music Center

This two-story complex is specially designed to enhance both teaching and performance. Classroom space includes rooms equipped with SMART Board® technology and special music instruction rooms. Tarr Music Center includes a piano lab with 12 student piano stations, and an electronic music lab with 6 iMac and MIDI keyboard work stations. Thomas Recital Hall seats an audience of 250 and is located in the west wing. It houses a 32-rank Reuter teaching and recital organ as well as two Steinway & Sons grand pianos.

Wellness Center at Kathleen Manley

The Kathleen Manley Wellness Center is open to all students. The Wellness Center houses Counseling Services, Health Services and Disability Services. Students can take advantage of the Relaxation Room and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the bustle of of the day. Staffed by a full-time Nurse Practioner, Carson-Newman Health Services provides non-emergent outpatient care for all currently enrolled students on campus free of charge.

Ted Russell Hall (Business)

Ted Russell Hall is the home of our Business Department. This expansive facility includes two theater-style smart classooms, four second-floor classrooms dedicated to computer-based courses, a student lounge, office suites, workrooms, and multiple conference rooms. This hub for business students features smart technology and a learning enviroment second-to-none.

Blye-Poteat Hall (Family and Consumer Science)

Blye-Poteat Hall is home to our Family and Consumer Sciences Department. It boasts state-of-the-art classrooms and lab facilities for consumer sciences; interior design; retailing; child and family studies; vocational education; as well as foods, nutrition, and dietetics. The facility features a BOSCH Foods and Nutrition Laboratory and displays the latest in kitchen design by area members of the National Kitchen and Bath Association.

Appalachian Commons

This on-campus apartment complex is made up of two separate buildings named after our Smoky Mountain landscape: LeConte for men and Greenbriar for women. Both living facilities feature two-person and four-person apartments that are fully furnished and provide residents with a living room, kitchen and bathroom. Each resident in Appalachian Commons has a private bedroom that is equipped with phone, cable, and computer connections. A separate laundry facility is shared between Greenbrier and LeConte, and also serves as home to the Appalachian Commons Residence Life Coordinator.

Baker Building

The Baker Building houses the Eagle Battalion, Carson-Newman's U.S. Army ROTC program. It includes ROTC administrative and academic offices, cadet lounge, and weightroom. It also features the Randall O'Brien Veterans Center. Baker is also home to Graduate Studies in Counseling and includes the William Blevins Institute for Spirituality and Mental Health. Other areas included in Baker are The Counseling and Collaboration Lab Facility, as well as Department of History and Political Science classrooms.

Stokely Memorial Cafeteria

Stokely Memorial Cafeteria, or better known as "The Caf," is THE meeting place for food and friends. Watch as your meal is prepared at one of our many food stations. Enjoy handcrafted pizza and pasta or a sizzling burger and fries from our grill. Compliment your meal with a fresh salad, steaming bowl of soup or slice of freshly baked bread from the Fresh Ideas staff. Still hungry? Make sure to grab something sweet like a homemade dessert with hand-scooped Mayfield ice cream.

Maddox Student Activities Center (MSAC)

Students at Carson-Newman have many opportunties to enjoy campus life at the Maddox Student Activities Center (MSAC). This 96,000 square-foot facility is filled with options for activities and interaction, including our campus Chick-fil-A, an indoor pool, track, multiple gymnasiums, fully-equipped excerise room, game room, dining room, ping-pong room and snackbar. It also houses study areas, classrooms, meeting rooms, the Office of Student Services, and post office. Make sure you stop by the Campus Store to grab an Eagles tumbler, jacket or maybe a game-day hoodie.

Holt Fieldhouse

Holt Fieldhouse is home to our men's and women's basketball teams, as well as our volleyball team. Over the decades, Holt has played host to numerous rivarly games for the Eagles. This venue seats up to 2,000 fans and houses athletic offices, the Carson-Newman Athletics Hall of Fame and hospitality room. The lower level includes a state-of-the-art training room, varsity weight room and team locker rooms. You've not lived until you've been to a night game in Holt and joined the Mossy Creek Maniacs in cheering for the Eagles.

Burke-Tarr Stadium

Burke-Tarr Stadium and Roy Harmon Field is home to the NCAA Division 2 powerhouse Carson-Newman Eagles football team. Over the years, Carson-Newman football has captured five national championships. On game day, Burke-Tarr can hold up to 6,500 fans cheering for the Orange and Blue. The facility often plays host to Spring Commencement for the University. The stadium space also features the Ken Sparks Athletic Complex in the south endzone, which includes a state-of-the-art training facility, locker room, team meeting rooms and coaches' offices.

Dougherty Science Center (Chemistry Lab)

This three-story complex has 58,449 square feet of floor space specifically designed to provide efficient teaching, lab work, and research of the natural sciences. The building is home to mathematics, biological sciences, chemistry and computer science. It features a computer lab, as well as areas for advanced independent study and research at the undergraduate level.

Drama and Ted Russell Center (Health Sciences)

The Drama and Ted Russell Center opened in 2023 and features an innovative healthcare learning environment. Students in our School of Health Sciences, which includes Nursing and Exercise Science, enjoy open study spaces and multiple lab areas. A bistro provides food options for students in between classes. Labs feature real world equipment, including hospital beds and patient monitoring equipment. The first floor houses the Sim Lab — a multi-bed teaching space with life-like mannequins to prepare students for a career in nursing. The second and third floors each house two large lab spaces. A large computer lab is used for testing and research purposes.

Henderson Humanities Building

Located in the heart of campus, this four-story building is home to several majors including: English, Communication, Theatre, Philosophy, Spanish, and the School of Biblical and Theological Studies. Gentry Auditorium host worship events and musicals and theatre performances. Phoenix Theater is a smaller venue used by classes and smaller productions. Henderson's innovative fourth floor is complete with a main lobby, study area, several classrooms and is home to Carson-Newman's award-winning Forensics team.

Chambliss Building

Warren Art Building "Michael Alvis Art Gallery"

Warren Art Building is called home by those who have chosen a path of creative expression. This facility includes 23 private studios awarded to the top Art and Photography majors based on an Annual Portfolio Review. The Student Gallery and recently renovated Michael Alvis Art Gallery welcomes the public to view art exhibits by students, faculty and guest artists. The Carson-Newman Art Department is an institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Stephens-Burnett Memorial Library

Stephens-Burnett Memorial Library houses a collection of over 200,000 volumes, various media, and e-books. The facility offers a great place to study with friends and collaborate on projects. The Media Services Center features space for video and television production, while Maples Coffeehouse is a great place to hang out between classes, grab a latte, fresh sandwich or a cold smoothie. Also in the library, students can view historical artifacts in the Lynn & Lyndsey Denton Gallery, or visit the Student Success Center to arrange tutoring or assistance for challenging classes.

Mossy Creek

Carson-Newman was founded on the banks of Mossy Creek in 1851. Site of the original portion of campus, this scenic, 18-acre park located on the east side of the University contains walking trails, the David W. Barger Disc Golf Course and the Randall and Kay O'Brien Amphitheater. Mossy Creek is also a focal point for campus spiritual life. Each year, Carson-Newman student-athletes gather on the creek's banks to witness baptisms of fellow teammates in the cool waters. Mossy Creek truly is a special place.
