Welcome to the Faculty of Music! A leader in higher education, U of T Music provides students with an exceptional learning experience, rich in opportunities to explore the many facets of music including performance, composition, education, technology, ethnomusicology, health sciences, and more. Entering the Edward Johnson Building you will find a welcoming space filled with musical activity throughout classrooms, rehearsal spaces, practice facilities, labs, two concert halls, the Music Library, and student common space. Experience a close-knit community, small classes and a supportive environment, with access to the expansive resources of the university - all while the vibrant multicultural landscape of Toronto is at your doorstep!

Each year, U of T Music presents 600 public concerts and events from enriching masterclasses to fully-staged opera productions. Shown here, Walter Hall was designed for chamber and solo recitals and provides an intimate space with beautiful acoustics. You will find abundant performance opportunities within a variety of ensembles ranging from the symphony orchestra to steel-pan drumming. All students receive individual lessons with esteemed faculty and instructors who are active professional musicians. You'll also work with internationally renowned guest artists, providing invaluable mentorship and inspiration. Past visitors include Barbara Hannigan, Howard Shore, Terri Lyne Carrington and Seraph Brass. All U of T students can enjoy concerts for free with their T-Card!

The Faculty of Music South is home-base for Jazz Studies and the (graduate) Music and Health Research Collaboratory. It also includes additional practice facilities. The Upper Jazz Studio, featured here, is the largest performance and rehearsal space for jazz activities including weekly masterclasses. Within the U of T Jazz community, you will find creative, innovative, and passionate students and faculty exploring both traditional and modern jazz styles. The small, focused jazz programs offer real-world experience with industry professionals and includes regular sets at the iconic Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar. Many students can also be found performing gigs throughout the city as part of Toronto’s bustling jazz scene.
