Welcome to the St. George Campus at the University of Toronto! This campus has a rich history dating back to 1827 when it was founded as King's College. Located in the heart of Toronto, our downtown campus has grown alongside the city, and we share much of the local culture, people, and spirit. Like Toronto, U of T St. George is a network of neighborhoods, where you can find communities, opportunities and experiences as unique as you. We invite you to explore some St. George Campus highlights throughout this virtual tour to learn more about our academic communities of Engineering, Arts & Science, Architectural Studies & Visual Studies, Kinesiology, and Music.

Hart House

Hart House is one of the oldest student centres in North America and is a testament to our vision of holistic learning and student development. Hart House is a dedicated student space that emphasizes our community's culture, health and social engagement. Inside Hart House, you'll find three 320 heritage rooms, including Hart House Theatre, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a serene multi-faith chapel, a lively debates room, an art gallery, the majestic Great Hall, and several dining options. Hart House also offers programming to round out the student experience, like Chess Club, Debating Club, Jazz Choir, and an Orchestra.

University College

University College is the oldest of the seven undergraduate colleges at U of T. Colleges are a key part of every Arts & Science student's experience, acting as a home base and providing a close-knit community. The colleges vary in tradition, age, size and location, but there is no wrong choice—they all offer support and services such as academic advising, social activities, intramural teams, student government, newspapers, meal plans and residence. Each college has essential facilities like classrooms, libraries, student services, clubs, dining options, and spaces for both commuters and residents. University College is designated as a National Historical Site, reflecting its enduring impact on the history of U of T and Canadian higher education.

Robarts Library

The University of Toronto's library system is an academic powerhouse, catering to students, researchers, and faculty alike. With a network of over 40 libraries across three campuses, it ranks as one of North America's largest. The vast collection includes millions of print and digital resources, spanning diverse subjects and disciplines. U of T libraries boast state-of-the-art facilities, collaborative study spaces, and access to cutting-edge research tools and databases. Robarts is the largest library on-campus, housing a whopping 4.5 million items across 14 floors. Be sure to visit the incredible Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library and the new Robarts Common – five floors of dedicated study space with 1200 study spots.  

Labs and Research

U of T is one of the world's leading research institutions with over $1.4 billion received annually in funding. We pride ourselves on our rich history of research achievements, such as the discovery of insulin and the development of the first electronic pacemaker. It's not just history we're making at U of T, but the future, too. As an undergraduate student, you'll be able to engage directly with research, supported by experienced faculty. Participate in research for course credit, independent research, lab employment and research abroad opportunities. Laboratories across campus cover all disciplines: from biomedical labs to interactive psychology research and from advanced physics facilities to finance trading labs. All labs provide an immersive research environment for students. 

Dormitory-Style Residences

Over half of our first-year students reside in one of our 25 buildings, spanning nine distinct residence systems. Our dormitory-style residences, like this room at St. Hilda's in Trinity College, offer single or multi-resident rooms, common areas, meal plans, and everything else you need to be comfortable during the school year. All residences have supportive dons and staff, encourage community-building, and offer a wide-range of opportunities for you to connect and get involved.  If you're commuting to campus, you can still find a home away from home with commuter lounges, meal plan options, orientation activities, clubs and supports.

Apartment-Style Residences

Woodsworth College Residence is an example of an apartment-style residence at U of T. Each apartment features four to five bedrooms, and shared kitchen and living spaces. While some spaces in residence are reserved for upper-year students, many opt to live off-campus in nearby neighbourhoods. Housing Services provides guidance and support and will help you find the right housing and roommates and ensure you understand your rights as a tenant. U of T's commitment to providing both on- and off-campus housing options aims to create a comfortable and convenient living experience for all our students. 

Dining on Campus

You'll find everything from all-you-care-to-eat dining halls to a la carte cafes, catering to various dietary needs. First Nations House – Indigenous Student Services

First Nations House provides culturally supportive services to Indigenous students, including academic success, personal growth and leadership development. It is a dedicated space on the St. George Campus to learn about Indigenous knowledges and traditional teachings, attend events, socialize, seek guidance from Elders and access financial and academic supports. It aims to offer learning opportunities for all students to engage with Indigenous communities at U of T and beyond. 

Philosopher's Walk

Philosopher's Walk is a scenic path that connects the campus to Toronto's wider community. Once a vital home and navigation route for the Mississauga people, Taddle Creek now flows beneath the walkway, replenishing the city's underground aquifers. In gratitude to the Indigenous people across Turtle Island who call this land home, we cherish and are thankful for its heritage. Along this walkway lies the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music, which offers diverse undergraduate and graduate programs. With exceptional educators and numerous areas of specialization, students embark on a comprehensive and enriching musical journey.

Sidney Smith Hall

Sidney Smith Hall is home to many departments within the Faculty of Arts & Science—our largest academic faculty, offering more than 300 programs and 4,000 courses in arts, science, and business. The iconic building, constructed in 1958, features well-equipped classrooms, lecture halls, and faculty offices, supporting various disciplines. The newly renovated Sidney Smith Commons offers an inviting, sunlit space where you can collaborate in small groups or study peacefully while enjoying the heritage skyline on St. George Street. Myhal Centre

Daniels Building

This iconic, neo-gothic building has undergone several transformations since 1875. Originally built as a theological school, in World War One it served as a military hospital where aviator Amelia Earhart once worked. After the discovery of insulin at the University of Toronto, ground-breaking medical research and insulin production took place here, solidifying the building's legacy at the intersection of history, research, and architectural significance.  Today, 1 Spadina is home to the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape & Design. It is a hub of creativity and innovation, offering both undergraduate and graduate programs. Daniels is a place for education, research, community interaction, and engagement with our interconnected world of architecture, urbanism, and visual arts.

Varsity Stadium and Goldring Centre

This is Varsity Stadium, home to the Varsity Blues' football and soccer teams – two of over 40 varsity sports. Across the field, is Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport, which is equipped with a strength and conditioning centre, a 2,000-seat field house, a sports research lab and a sports therapy clinic. Open to all students, here you can dive into fitness or research at any skill level.  The interdisciplinary study of movement is central to our Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education. Movement – through physical activity, sport, exercise, dance or play – is essential to the health and well-being of individuals, communities and society. KPE is headquartered in these award-winning facilities.

Athletic Centre

From the competitive Varsity Blues teams to the Tri-campus Development League to recreational sports, we offer physical activities for every fitness level. Get involved and have fun in the spirited competition of our Intramural leagues, the largest in Canada with over 11,000 participants each year. The Athletic Centre is a key highlight, housing everything from bustling gymnasiums to Olympic-calibre indoor pools and a robust strength and conditioning centre. Centrally located on campus, it's the go-to spot for a variety of sports and activities, such as swimming, fencing, or badminton. You can represent U of T against other universities, get in a workout or just enjoy some casual fun.

East Campus

The vibrant east side of St. George campus is where academia, history and culture meet. Here you'll find Victoria College, home to stunning architecture, including the 1892 Old Vic building. Just south is St. Michael's College, on its 11-acre campus. Just beyond you'll enter the leafy oasis of Queen's Park, ideal for picnics, midday strolls, and home to the Ontario Legislative Building. This dynamic blend of spaces connects our students to the larger Toronto community and underpins a truly inspiring learning environment.

Back Campus

Back Campus Field is home to two synthetic turf fields with outdoor stands, surrounded by beautiful greenery and trees. It is available to use for physical activity and sports such as recreational workouts, child and youth programming, intramurals, recreational field hockey, soccer, Ultimate frisbee, lacrosse and other field sports. Students can also be found reading, relaxing and picnicking on the natural grass and amongst the treed areas. Here in the centre of campus, you can find Trinity College, an architectural and historical gem. The nearby colleges of Innis, New and Woodsworth round out the seven undergraduate colleges you've seen on the tour.
