COMP-Northwest opened its doors in 2011 as an expansion of Western University of Health Science's medical school located in Pomona, California. We can be found on the Samaritan Health Sciences Campus and many of our students live within walking distance of the facilities. Nearby you'll find the Edward C. Allsworth Oregon Veterans' Home, Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, the SamFit exercise facility and a Japanese healing garden.

COMP-Northwest educates a new cohort of medical students each year in its four-year program. The first two didactic years take place primarily in this building and the surrounding communities. Our third-year clinical rotations sites are located in Washington, California and Oregon. The fourth year allows students to pursue their specialty interest at regional, national and even international locations. It is our philosophy to expose students to a wide range of clinical experiences, which include community-based hospitals, county-based hospitals, and private practice offices.

The neuro-musculoskeletal/osteopathic manipulative medicine lab is one of the key learning spaces in our building. Here students discover how to develop the power of touch into a diagnostic and treatment tool. At WesternU, we emphasize the latest in research, emerging technologies, and national best practices, while hosting one of the most extensive OMM fellowship programs in the country.
COMP-Northwest Clinical Skills

At our new, highly advanced Clinical Skills simulation lab, we provide safe and realistic environments where students develop and hone their clinical, interpersonal, and communication skills. We are proud to offer more Standardized Patient encounters than most medical schools and because of this our students score extremely highly in the Performance Evaluation portion of their board exams. Training future physicians to treat patients with care and compassion is important to us. Students practice these skills during their clerkship years at rotation sites across the country, such as at the WesternU Health Oliver Station in Portland, where students are exposed to a variety of interesting clinical educational opportunities.
COMP-Northwest Research

COMP-Northwest students gain valuable hands-on research experience working side-by-side with faculty. Research is an important aspect of any medical school, and we provide ample opportunities to participate in research labs, anatomy labs and in clinical research. Our faculty have an open-door policy and interested students are encouraged to join current projects or are supported in pursuing research in new arenas. Even if you have no prior research experience, the door is open for you to learn and be involved.

CHS-Northwest offers Practical Application Labs (PALs) within the curriculum. PALs is a series of five laboratory-based classes where students work with volunteer patients under the direct supervision of DPT-Oregon faculty members and practicing DPTs in the community. This is a win-win situation where students are provided authentic learning opportunities throughout the curriculum and patients from the local community are provided with physical therapy evaluations and interventions.
