You will notice a cannon on the front yard of the Main Building. UK Archives points to an article in the Feb. 18, 1937, Kentucky Kernel which reported this cannon was originally captured during the Spanish American War in 1898. Today, you cannot fire the cannon thanks to the actions of students in the early 1900’s, who reportedly fired the cannon a little too much in the early 1900’s celebrating athletic victories. It was ultimately filled with cement!
